Sep 13, 2019

GLENVIEW, Ill. – July 10, 2019 – Ryne Sandberg and the Illinois PGA Foundation have announced plans to host a charity golf Pro-Am on Monday, September 23 at Westmoreland Country Club in Wilmette. The event will raise funds and build awareness for the Illinois PGA Foundation and other deserving charities.

“We are thrilled to be able to partner with Ryne Sandberg, a Major League Baseball Hall of Famer and one of the all-time great Chicago sports icons, to raise funds and awareness for the Illinois PGA Foundation,” said Carrie Williams, CEO of the Illinois PGA Foundation. “The Foundation supports junior golf programs, grow the game initiatives as well as internship and scholarship programs that allow young people the opportunity to work in the golf business and attend college.”

The $1,500 team entry fee includes a pre-round luncheon, player gift package, on-course contest prizes, and a post-round dinner reception with exclusive silent auction items and a fireside chat with Ryne Sandberg, hosted by Daily Herald sports columnist, Barry Rozner.
Player registration and range time will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. and dinner reception and fireside chat at 5:30 p.m. The silent auction will close at 7:00 p.m.

“I have participated in many charity golf Pro-Ams over the years and hosting one myself was something I was always interested in but wanted to find the right group to partner with,” said Sandberg. “I’ve been involved with Illinois PGA Section and Foundation events in the past and have a great deal of respect for the Illinois PGA Professionals who manage golf operations at courses and clubs throughout the Chicagoland area.

Many of the golf pros are involved in community and charity work themselves that we can support and make an even greater impact through this Pro-Am event.” said Sandberg.

Proceeds from the Ryne Sandberg Illinois PGA Foundation Charity Pro-Am will benefit the Illinois PGA Foundation and programs it supports including PGA HOPE, PGA Jr. League, First Tee of Greater Chicago, Maryville Golf Academy, GolfWorks Illinois, several college scholarship programs plus programs that Ryne Sandberg supports at the Great Lakes Naval Station and Lambs Farm.
Teams will be made up of one PGA Professional and three amateur players. The event format is two (2) best balls of the foursome (one gross & one net). Amateur team members are playing at 80% of their handicap. Senior amateurs will be given the option to declare and play from a forward set of tees.
