ROY BIANCALANA WINS ILLINOIS PGA ERRIE BALL SENIOR PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Oct 23, 2018

GLENVIEW, Ill. – Having returned to the Illinois PGA Section this season following a 10-year hiatus from playing competitive golf, Roy Biancalana of St. Andrews Golf & Country Club in West Chicago, won the Errie Ball Senior Player of the Year Award.

Biancalana earned 2,163 points playing in eight events from June through October. He captured two first place finishes at Senior Stroke Play #1 (T-1) at Balmoral Woods Country Club and Senior Stroke Play #4 at Naperville Country Club. He finished fourth just last week at the IPGA Senior Players Championship at Old Elm Club.

“I didn’t know what to expect this season having spent so much time away from the competitive aspect of game,” said Biancalana who returned as a golf instructor at St. Andrews after being a relationship coach in Florida for the past 10 years. “There are many outstanding senior players in the Illinois Section and the competition is top-notch. I’m really happy to have won the senior title this season.”

David Paeglow (Kishwaukee CC) finished second only 265.5 points behind Biancalana and Danny Mulhearn (Glen Oak CC) finished third in the Errie Ball Senior Player of the Year standings.

“Roy had a very good comeback season this year at our Illinois PGA tournaments, and his skill and dedication to the game paid off with him winning Senior Player of the Year honors,” said Carrie Williams, Executive Director of the Illinois PGA Section.

In addition to his Player of the Year honors, Biancalana qualified to compete in the 2019 PGA Senior Professional Championship which begins this week Oct. 25-28 at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Biancalana finished T-6 at the Illinois PGA Senior Championship at Merit Club in Libertyville, Ill. in mid-August to qualify for the National PGA Senior Professional Championship. He also qualified for the 2018 U.S. Senior Open at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs.
